By | November 26, 2012

It has become obvious these days that everywhere you look there are beautiful Italian scarves gracing the necks of women and men alike. And fashion designers seem to be struggling as they keep up with the demand for unique style creations.

Storage

Just as with any other beautiful accessory, taking care of Italian scarves, evening shawls and wraps must be a priority if you are going to be able to enjoy them to the full. Natural fabrics such as silk, wool and cashmere must be handled carefully. For storage purposes, fold your scarves lightly without creasing and lay flat in a dark box or drawer that will remain dry. Placing them over padded hangers and storing in the closet is also an option.

Cleaning

Italian scarves, evening shawls and wraps should be dry cleaned only when they are soiled, and they may be ironed on low settings when required. In the intervals between cleaning keep herb sachets near scarves to help keep the fresh. This also acts to repel moths and this is particularly helpful with cashmere and wool. It is possible to purchase herb sachets, but some people enjoy making them on their own.

Here is a simple recipe that can be used.

  • Herb Sachet
  • 8 ounces whole cloves
  • 1 ounce dried thyme
  • 2 ounces rosemary
  • 2 ounces lavender
  • 2 ounces mint

Combine the ingredients and sew them into pouches that are approximately 3.5 inches square. Use tightly woven fabric for best results. Once you have filled the pouches you created, tie the open end up with ribbon, and place them anywhere you want like in closets and the drawers where you keep you Italian scarves, evening shawls and wraps.

With just a little care you will be able to keep your beautiful scarves looking their best for years of wear.

Some Facts About Italian Fabrics

While wool is often fine and soft to the touch, sometimes it is combined with silk to add even more softness and extra sheen. It is frequently used to create breathable fabrics, and where it is important that the garments keep their shape. Men’s suits are often made from the finest wool fabrics

Pashmina and Cashmere

Most people do not know it, but pashmina and cashmere both come from the very same goats. The distinguishing factor between the two is that cashmere wool has to be less than 19 microns in diameter, and pashmina comes in at 12 to 14 microns. Both are softer than regular wool and come from India’s Kashmir province.

When choosing the perfect Italian scarves, evening shawls and wraps, you cannot go wrong in selecting fine wool, cashmere, or silk fabrics.
